5. FREE Summer Arts Institute
Students entering grades 8-12 in September can apply to attend the Summer Arts Institute, a FREE, four week intensive arts program to be held at the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts HS in July. The program is designed for students at an intermediate or advanced level of study in their chosen art form. Tracks offered in dance, drams, vocal music, instrumental music (band), photography, film, and visual arts. Admission to the program is by application and competitive auditions
 
6. The Weitzmann Institute in Israel has International Summer ScienceInstitute
Students will study at Rehovot and working in groups of two or three students, will work on ongoing research projects of their choosing under the guidance of Weitzmann Institute graduate students and scientists. The final week of the program will be spent at a field school in the Judean Desert near the Dead Sea. Each student accepts will receive a scholarship. Extremely prestigious program. 7B. SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION AUTHORITY
The SCA needs young talent like you!!! Six week program for HS juniors and seniors in conjunction with the NYCDOE. The program places students in internships at the SCA and with various architectural, construction and engineering firms doing business with the SCA . Four days in a business environment and one day in a classroom setting attending career development workshops. Participating students work 30 hours per week and are PAID minimum wages. Weill Cornell Youth Scholar Program (WCYSP)
Has developed this program for underrepresented, underprivileged students from New York’s inner city high schools. The program will allow youth scholars to have a taste of the Weill Cornell Medical School curriculum, while improving their reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. 3. Columbia University Science Honors Program – FALL 2010
Highly selective program for students who have a strong interest in science and mathematics. Classes are held at Columbia from 10 AM to 12:30 pm on Saturdays throughout the academic year. This program will include lectures and laboratory experiences related to concepts in science and the various engineering disciplines such as civil, mechanical, chemical, electrical, environmental and computer engineering. Attention will be given to analyzing material properties and how they relate to design of structures. Applying to college and financial aid will be looked into. Career opportunities in engineering and related fields, such as law, education, and medicine will be discussed. Laboratory experiences in chemistry, bridge building, surveying, computer aided design, robotics and physics as well as SAT preparation are being planned.

SUMMER PROGRAM
1. Minds Matter is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to transform the lives of accomplished high school students from low-income families by broadening their dreams and preparing them for college success. We are currently accepting applications for the 2010 - 2011 Sophomore Program and encourage you to nominate qualified students. Each accepted student is paired with two mentors, a writing advisor, and an SAT/ACT test preparation advisor who work with the student on Saturdays throughout the school year. Minds Matter expects its students to return to the program each year through senior year of high school.

In sophomore and junior years, Minds Matter assists students in applying to academic summer programs at various colleges, universities, and preparatory schools. In past summers, students have attended institutions including Harvard, Brown, Cornell, Yale, Phillips Academy (Andover), Phillips Exeter and Choate. Students have also attended academic programs abroad in countries such as France, Japan, South Africa and Thailand.

As senior year approaches, the focus shifts toward researching, applying to, and gaining acceptance into a four-year college or university. Minds Matter also assists its students in applying for financial aid and supplements this aid with its own fundraising efforts. The Minds Matter program is of no cost to your students or your school.

Please note the following about the ideal candidate:
· Enrolled in 10th grade for the 2010-2011 academic year and interested in pursuing a college education
· Demonstrates strong academic potential, motivation, maturity, time management and responsibility
· Maintains an overall grade point average of at least 88%
· Active in extracurricular and/or community activities (part-time jobs included)
· Qualifies for free and reduced price lunch (special consideration may be granted based on number of dependents and other extenuating circumstances)
· Would benefit greatly from a summer academic experience
